Dr. Richard Konteh, who is running to become the APC’s flagbearer, has pointed the finger at his own party for the difficulties it is facing from the ruling SLPP.
In an exclusive talk with AYV, Konteh said things would not have reached this stage if the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) had simply told APC members earlier this year to follow their own party constitution.
“If the PPRC had told them back in February to just respect the party’s constitution, we would not be in this mess today. That is what started the problems we are dealing with now,” he said.
He also asked how the APC can properly call out the SLPP for not following the rule of law when some people inside the APC itself are accused of breaking their own party rules.
“How can we criticize the SLPP when our own members are not even obeying the laws of our party?” Konteh asked.
His comments come at a time when the APC is still dealing with internal disagreements and ongoing issues with state bodies, including the PPRC. The party has been going through lower-level elections, questions over its constitution, and court matters about the current executive’s time in office. The PPRC recently said the present APC leadership will stay in place until a court case is settled.
Konteh, often called “D-Unifier,” has been pushing for unity inside the APC as the party looks ahead to the 2028 elections.
