The West Rural District Executive of the governing Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has taken disciplinary action against its Constituency 109 Chairman, Mr. James Fomba, over two videos currently circulating on social media.
In a letter dated 25th September 2026, the District said it had invited Mr. Fomba to appear before the Executive to respond to issues concerning the videos, but he failed to attend the first meeting scheduled for 23rd September.
In his response dated 24th September 2026, Mr. Fomba explained that he was outside the country on unavoidable engagements, but said he remained willing to appear before the District Executive to clarify the matter.
The District Executive, chaired by Mr. Charles Yimbo and with Mr. Augustine Koroma as District Secretary, said it noted his explanation, but that his letter did not indicate a specific date of return to Sierra Leone or when he would be available to meet.
The Executive said this presented a difficulty, given what it described as the urgency of the matter and the need for the Party to address it within a reasonable timeframe.
“There is an inadvertent error,” the letter also noted, pointing out that Mr. Fomba dated his response letter as 24th September 2028 instead of 2026.
Following a unanimous decision, the District has now temporarily stepped Mr. Fomba aside as Constituency Chairman of Constituency 109, pending an independent investigation.
The probe will be instituted and overseen by the Regional Executive of the SLPP, Western Region, in accordance with Party structures and procedures.
In the interim, the District Chairman, Mr. Charles Yimbo, will nominate a member of the Constituency 109 Executive to act as Chairman until the investigation is concluded.
The Executive emphasized that the step-aside is a precautionary measure to preserve party discipline and effective functioning, and not a final determination.
“You will have the opportunity to respond to the matters raised and to present your position through the appropriate process,” the letter told Mr. Fomba.
“We wish you well in your current engagements and look forward to your cooperation with the investigative process upon your return,” it added.
The letter was copied to the SLPP National Chairman, National Secretary General, Regional Chairman – Western Region, District Executive and the Secretary of Constituency 109.
