A Nigerian dancer has completed a 168-hour dance marathon in Lagos in an attempt to set a new Guinness World Record.
Benjamin Daniel, known as “Ben Dancer”, began dancing at Freedom Park in Lagos with the aim of breaking the record for the longest dance marathon by an individual, which currently stands at 127 hours.
The 33-year-old reached his initial target of seven days at around 03:00 local time [02:00 GMT] but continued for another nine hours until midday on Tuesday, his team said.
Videos shared on social media showed friends and supporters cheering him on in the final hours of the challenge, which was live-streamed.
His team said he was physically exhausted after the attempt and had been taken to hospital for a medical check-up.
Guinness World Records told the BBC it had received an application from Daniel.
“Benjamin’s application is active and we now eagerly await submission of his evidence, which will then go through our official review and verification process before any record can be confirmed,” a spokesperson said.
His team said they were “elated” after watching him complete the challenge.
Guinness World Records requires extensive evidence, including video footage, logbooks and witness statements, before a record can be verified – a process that can take several weeks.
