A live interview on AYV on Sunday turned into a heated exchange between journalist Thomas Dixon and SLPP National Publicity Secretary Moses Mambu over the leadership and internal running of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party.
Dixon, who is a media commentator and publisher of New Age Newspaper, accused the party executive of being occupied by inexperienced individuals and called on President Julius Maada Bio, as Leader of the SLPP, to take firmer control.
“I want to urge the leader of the SLPP, President Bio, to begin taking control, because small boys are in the executive,” Dixon said.
Mambu, who appeared on the same AYV programme, immediately rejected the claim and defended the current executive.
“Those of us running the SLPP are not small boys,” Mambu said.
The back-and-forth, which was broadcast on AYV Television and Radio 101.7 FM, has since generated debate on social media over who truly runs the governing party and the role of President Bio.
Dixon is known for his critical commentary on the government and has previously clashed with state institutions over press freedom issues.
Mambu, as the official spokesman of the SLPP, has in recent weeks been at the centre of political debate after his comments calling for a national discussion on presidential term limits and the cost of elections ahead of the 2028 polls.
The SLPP, led nationally by Chairman Jimmy Batilo Songa and Secretary General Napoleon Koroma, is currently navigating internal tensions over discipline, communication and succession as President Bio serves his second and final term under the 1991 Constitution.
