Regional Chairmen of the Citizens Democratic Party (CDP) have said Hon. Alhaji Musa Tarawally left the party in 2018 and is no longer a member, contradicting a letter from their own National Secretary General that is now being used by the SLPP to disown him.
In a press statement for immediate release dated 18th September 2026, the four Regional Chairmen said they categorically refute the claims contained in a letter signed by the CDP Secretary General indicating that Tarawally is still a CDP member.
The statement is signed by Issa Turay – Regional Chairman, North; Joseph E. Kobby – Regional Chairman, South; Solution S. Brown – Regional Chairman, East; and Mohamed Bangura – Regional Chairman, West.
According to the Chairmen, Tarawally resigned from the CDP following the first round of the 2018 elections on 15th June 2018, in a letter addressed to the then National Secretary General, Mr. Victor O. King, who is the current National Chairman of the CDP.
They said they personally witnessed his return to the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and his public declaration of support for President Julius Maada Bio during the 2018 presidential run-off at the Bo Coronation Field.
The regional leaders said the current Secretary General did not consult them before replying to the SLPP Chairman’s enquiry about Tarawally’s membership status.
They also said the current National Chairman of the CDP, who was Secretary General when Tarawally resigned, has told them he was not consulted by the Secretary General before the letter was written.
They added that the letter from the Secretary General was not signed and approved by the current National Chairman, and that it was written on an outdated CDP letterhead bearing an address used by the party in 2018-2019 which is now being used as a private dwelling house.
“In light of the above, we firmly state that Hon. Alhaji Musa Tarawally is not a member of the Citizens Democratic Party,” the Chairmen said, calling on the public to disregard any assertion to the contrary.
The clarification comes after SLPP National Chairman Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa, in a letter dated 17th September 2026, relied on the CDP Secretary General’s letter dated 3rd September 2026 to direct Tarawally to immediately stop using the SLPP logo, presenting himself as a member, or as a flagbearer aspirant for 2028.
