Former President Ernest Bai Koroma is expected in Freetown this weekend and will travel to Makeni the following week, Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has announced.
Dr. Jalloh made the disclosure on Tuesday while speaking to Paramount Chiefs, council members and other stakeholders in Makeni during his ongoing Regional Decentralisation Tour.
According to the Vice President, the former President’s visits will give room for more engagement with communities and stakeholders in both the capital and his hometown.
“Former President Koroma is expected to be in Freetown this weekend before travelling to Makeni next week. This will provide an opportunity for further engagement with stakeholders and communities,” Dr. Jalloh said.
Koroma returned to Sierra Leone in July 2026 after more than two years in Nigeria for medical treatment. His stay abroad followed treason charges linked to the November 2023 incident in Freetown. The charges were dropped in July 2026 on health grounds.
Since his return, Koroma has thanked President Julius Maada Bio, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and ECOWAS for helping to facilitate his return. He has also called for peace and national unity.
The Vice President is currently on a two-week tour across the regions to discuss local governance and decentralisation. The tour, supported by the Ministry of Local Government and the World Bank, has already taken him to Kenema, Bo and is now in the north.
In Makeni, Dr. Jalloh said the meetings are not about politics, but about listening to problems at the local level and finding solutions. He also launched a new Regional Coordination Committee to help councils work better together.
Government says the goal of the tour is to make local government more effective and responsive to the needs of ordinary Sierra Leoneans.
