The body of Dr. Adrian Hanciles, a medical doctor based in Freetown, has been confirmed found after he went missing for about a week.
Dr. Hanciles was last seen around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, 3 September 2026, near St Mary’s Supermarket at Hillcot Junction. He was reportedly wearing a brown shirt and trousers. His disappearance quickly spread on social media, prompting the Sierra Leone Medical and Dental Association (SLMDA) to join the search.
The association issued a public notice with his photograph and appealed for information, while the family provided a contact number (+232 88 470876) for anyone with credible leads.
Sources indicate that Sierra Leone Police contacted the family after the missing person’s reports gained wide attention on Wednesday evening. Officers informed relatives that an unidentified body was being held at the Police Mortuary in Kingtom. Police reportedly said the body had already been in their custody for some time before the family was notified.
Separately, police at Golf Police Post recorded that on the morning of 3 September at about 09:40 hours, an unidentified man was found lifeless on Lumley Beach Road in Lumley. CID and SOCO officers attended the scene, took photographs, and conveyed the body to the Kingtom Police Hospital Mortuary for preservation. At the time, no one had claimed the remains and investigations were ongoing.
Reports have not yet officially confirmed whether this is the same body now linked to Dr. Hanciles.
The circumstances surrounding the doctor’s death remain unclear. No official cause of death has been released, and police investigations continue. The Kingtom Police Mortuary, which received a newly built ultra-modern facility in late 2025, is handling the remains as authorities work to establish the full facts.
The family, friends, and the wider medical community have been offered condolences during this difficult period.
