A newborn baby girl who was allegedly abandoned in a pit toilet in Bo City is now recovering and responding well to treatment at Bo Government Hospital, authorities have confirmed.

The disturbing incident came to light when a passerby, identified as Idrissa, reportedly heard faint cries from inside the toilet. He immediately raised an alarm, prompting nearby residents to act quickly and rescue the baby alive.
Medical sources say the child was in critical condition at the time of rescue but was promptly stabilized by hospital staff. Doctors have since confirmed steady improvement in her condition.
Meanwhile, the woman alleged to be the baby’s mother has denied abandoning the child. She claims she left the baby in a room and later returned to find the child missing.
Residents have called on the Sierra Leone Police to conduct a thorough investigation to establish the facts surrounding the incident. Community members also expressed relief that the baby survived, crediting the swift response of both the passerby and local residents.
Authorities have emphasized the importance of community vigilance and support to help prevent similar incidents in the future, as police investigations continue.
