The Audit Service of Sierra Leone (ASSL) has raised concerns over missing vehicles, motorbikes, and unverified assets worth over NLe1 million at the Ministry of Health, according to its 2024 audit report.
The report indicates that assets valued at NLe1,224,000, procured in 2024 for the Hospital Inspection Programme and the Directorate of Financial Resources, were neither available for audit verification nor recorded in the Ministry’s fixed assets register.
Auditors warned that the failure to properly account for these assets exposes government property to possible loss or theft and poses a direct risk to public funds.
“The lack of proper asset management undermines transparency and accountability, creating a risk of financial loss to the government,” the report noted.
The ASSL has urged the Ministry of Health to take immediate steps to verify, record, and safeguard all assets to prevent misuse or misappropriation.
This revelation highlights ongoing challenges in public sector accountability and the urgent need for stricter controls over government resources. The Ministry of Health has yet to issue a public response to the audit findings.
