In a historic demonstration of cooperation, political leaders from Sierra Leone’s two primary parties, the All People’s Congress (APC) and the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), joined forces at the International Political Campaign Expo (IPE 25) held in Cape Town from January 22 to 25, 2025. This significant event, known as Africa’s largest inter-political party gathering, saw a diverse array of political figures convene to explore innovative strategies that could reshape political campaigning across the continent.
The Sierra Leone delegation comprised prominent members from both parties, including SLPP Secretary General Umaru Napoleon Koroma, who also serves as Sierra Leone’s Deputy Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources; APC National Chairman Alhaji Minkailu Mansary; APC Secretary General Lansana Dumbuya; and Deputy SLPP Chairman Alpha Kallon. Their participation demonstrated a commitment to unity and mutual learning amid a politically charged atmosphere.
Throughout the expo, leaders engaged in deep discussions on crucial topics such as resource mobilization, the integration of modern technology and data analytics in political campaigns, and effective political communication strategies. Koroma highlighted the significance of these discussions, stating, “The insights shared during the conference have been profoundly enlightening, and the resources provided are invaluable.”
One of the standout features of the event was a dedicated focus on resource mobilization tactics, equipping attendees with practical skills to enhance their campaign strategies. Participants exchanged experiences and best practices, allowing them to learn from successes and challenges encountered in their respective political journeys.
The presence of influential figures from both the APC and SLPP marks a transformative moment in Sierra Leone’s political narrative, indicating a shift towards increased collaboration and dialogue between the historically rival parties. As they shared ideas and forged connections, the leaders recognized that this unity could pave the way for more constructive political engagement in the future.
As the Sierra Leonean delegation prepares to return home over the weekend, they are expected to come back with a treasure trove of knowledge and actionable strategies, which will likely influence the political landscape in Sierra Leone for years to come, fostering a spirit of collaboration and innovation in political practices.
