A 19-year-old law student at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, has leveled serious accusations against Justice Momoh Jah Stevens, a senior judge at the High Court. In a video shared on a WhatsApp platform, Miss Edwina Hawa Jamiru alleged that the judge engaged in a prolonged romantic relationship with her, resulting in a pregnancy, and later abandoned both her and the unborn child.
Jamiru recounted the relationship, describing it as intimate and lasting for several years. She stated that she initially believed Justice Stevens was a responsible and trustworthy individual, given his prominent position within the judiciary. “He presented himself as a respectable man, but he used me for his own gratification,” she said.
According to Jamiru, the relationship began at City Hall, where they frequently met. She claimed that Justice Stevens gave her false hope by portraying himself as a caring partner, only to exploit her trust. Now a second-year law student, Jamiru expressed her deep disappointment, noting that she had aspired to work in a system symbolizing truth and justice.
“I have always believed in the judiciary as a pillar of justice, but men like Justice Stevens tarnish its reputation,” she said. Jamiru added that when she informed him about her pregnancy, the judge refused to accept responsibility. “He told me he never loved me and only saw me as a means to satisfy his desires,” she alleged.
The video has sparked widespread reactions, with many questioning the ethical conduct of high-ranking officials within the judiciary. Observers have raised concerns over the implications of such allegations, particularly involving someone in a position of legal authority.
As of now, Justice Stevens has not responded to the claims, and the judiciary has yet to issue an official statement.
