Sierra Leoneans living outside Freetown will no longer need to travel to the capital for immigration services, as the Sierra Leone Immigration Department (SLID) has taken its services to the regions.
In a Public Notice dated 5th October 2026, the Department announced it has established four Regional Headquarters Offices in Bo, Kenema, Makeni and Port Loko as part of its drive to decentralize services and bring them closer to the people.
For years, citizens from the South, East, North and North-West have had to spend huge sums on transport, lodging and feeding in Freetown just to apply for passports, residence permits and other immigration documents. That burden is now expected to end.
According to the Notice, members of the public can now visit the nearest Regional Headquarters for all enquiries, applications and other immigration-related matters.
The new offices are located at:
*Southern Region – Bo:* 19 Reservation Road, Bo. Tel: +232 70200294. Email: jamescooper@slid.gov.sl
*Eastern Region – Kenema:* 7 Maada Bio Street, Kenema. Tel: +232 70200293. Email: foday smomoh@slid.gov.sl
*Northern Region – Makeni:* 6 Station Road, Makeni. Tel: +232 70200293. Email: osmanakamara@slid.gov.sl
*North-Western Region – Port Loko:* 22 Modu Lane, Port Loko. Tel: +232 70200296. Email: osmandukuray@slid.gov.sl
The Department said the decentralization is aimed at enhancing efficiency, accessibility and quality of service delivery nationwide, while reducing the long queues and delays at its Head Office at 14 Gloucester Street in Freetown.
The move has been welcomed as a major step in making public service delivery inclusive and in line with the government’s decentralization agenda.
The Public Relations Unit of SLID said the Department remains firmly committed to facilitating lawful movement, protecting national security and serving with integrity.
