The All People’s Congress (APC) has decided to hold a fresh election for Constituency 044 in Kabala, Koinadugu District.
This follows complaints of over-voting in the party’s internal poll held there recently.
The original vote was meant to take place on 15 September at the APC Party Office in Kabala. It formed part of the party’s lower-level internal elections, which the National Secretariat arranged after some earlier delays and petitions held up other polls.
Party members and stakeholders have raised questions about how these internal elections are being run across the country. Some say the process needs tighter management to keep it credible.
The APC’s Internal Election Management Committee has already noted the problems in Constituency 044. Umaru Jogor Barrie, the party’s Koinadugu District Coordinator, spoke about the disagreements and how the poll was handled when interviewed by AYV’s correspondent in Kabala.
The re-run gives the party a chance to clear up the doubts from the first attempt and get a clean result for the constituency.
This comes as the APC continues its wider internal elections. The process has seen several petitions, disputes and steps from the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC).
In July, the PPRC told the party to publish candidate and delegate lists before constituency elections for better transparency. It also said polls should not go ahead in places where related ward-level petitions were still pending.
The party’s lower-level elections have faced other delays and challenges this year, including recent postponements of some district polls. The re-run in Kabala is one more step as the APC works through these issues.
