Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, was in Conakry this Wednesday as a special guest of the Guinean government.
He attended the official launch of Guinea’s new Foreign Policy Document at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during his two-day working visit.
Guinea’s Prime Minister, Amadou Oury Bah, led the event. Senior government officials and diplomats were present as the new policy was unveiled. The document sets out how Guinea plans to deal with the rest of the world, work with its neighbours, and use diplomacy to grow its economy.
When he launched the document, the Prime Minister said Guinea’s foreign policy would rest on five main ideas: protecting the country’s independence, staying neutral where it makes sense, transforming the economy, keeping peace, and building a stronger Africa.
He said Guinea’s embassies should work harder to win influence, negotiate better deals, attract money and investment, and promote the country. Partnerships will only be welcomed if they bring real jobs, investment, better roads and infrastructure, skills for Guineans, and new technology.
He repeated Guinea’s commitment to peace in the region with the words, “Africa is our family, the world is our horizon.”
The priorities he listed include being good neighbours, sharing security efforts, building economic links and energy projects together, and managing the borders better.
Before the launch, Prime Minister Bah visited Vice President Jalloh at the Radisson Blu Hotel. The courtesy call showed once again the warm and growing relationship between the two neighbouring countries.
The visit continues the close ties between Sierra Leone and Guinea. Both sides have been working to strengthen cooperation on practical issues that matter to people on both sides of the border.
