According to an official recruitment announcement issued by the RSLAF, applications for the nationwide recruitment exercise will officially open on Thursday, January 22, 2026. The exercise forms part of the government’s broader effort to strengthen national security, enhance operational capacity, and provide employment opportunities for qualified citizens.
The RSLAF stated that the recruitment process will be conducted transparently and strictly based on merit. Interested applicants who meet the required criteria are encouraged to submit their applications at the nearest military location for onward transmission to the appropriate regional recruitment centres. These centres will be responsible for screening, documentation, and further assessment of candidates.
While full eligibility requirements are expected to be displayed at recruitment centres, applicants are generally expected to be Sierra Leonean citizens, medically and physically fit, of good character, and within the approved age bracket. Educational qualifications and other specific requirements will vary depending on the category of enlistment.
The military authorities have cautioned the public against fraudsters, stressing that recruitment into the RSLAF is free of charge. Members of the public are advised to rely only on official information issued by the Armed Forces.
