Sierra Leone has reached a major milestone in its healthcare transformation with the official launch of the country’s first ever National Health Information Hub, marking a new era of data driven health planning and service delivery. The landmark initiative was launched today by Austin Demby, PhD, MPH, on behalf of Julius Maada Bio President of the Republic of Sierra Leone.

The National Health Information Hub is designed to centralize and provide real time access to critical health data, with a strong focus on maternal and child health. For the first time, the country now has a single national platform that captures and analyzes key indicators including pregnancies, deliveries, antenatal and postnatal care attendance, immunization coverage, and mortality trends. This system will enable health authorities and policymakers to make informed, timely decisions that directly improve the quality, efficiency, and equity of healthcare services.
At the launch, Dr. Demby highlighted that reliable and timely data is the backbone of a strong health system. He noted that the new hub will strengthen planning, improve monitoring and evaluation, and enhance accountability across all levels of the health sector. By identifying gaps and tracking progress in real time, the platform will support targeted interventions, especially for women, children, and vulnerable populations.
This groundbreaking initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 3, which aims to ensure good health and wellbeing for all, and reinforces Sierra Leone’s national ambition to achieve universal health coverage. The launch of the National Health Information Hub underscores the government’s commitment to innovation, digital transformation, and sustainable investments that will drive better health outcomes and a more resilient health system for the nation.
