SK’s Heart To Africa, a youth-led nonprofit organization, has emerged as a growing force in community development, impacting more than 1,800 people across Sierra Leone through education, social welfare, youth employment, and humanitarian support initiatives.
Founded in August 2025 by development practitioner Bennetta Sia Mendekia, SK’s Heart To Africa was established with personal funding and a mission to respond directly to the needs of vulnerable communities. Since its inception, the organization has rolled out multiple grassroots programs aimed at improving livelihoods and promoting dignity among beneficiaries.
As part of its community support drive, the organization provided cash assistance to over 850 individuals, targeting market women and residents in high-traffic street communities. The initiative was designed to offer immediate relief while restoring hope among struggling households.
In the education sector, SK’s Heart To Africa supported 170 primary school pupils with learning materials, hygiene items, and nutritional support. Female pupils also received sanitary pads to help address challenges affecting school attendance and dignity.
Youth empowerment remains a key focus of the organization. Through a weekly beach clean-up exercise at Lumley Beach, SK’s Heart To Africa provided employment opportunities for 30 young men, particularly during the rainy season when job opportunities are limited. The initiative also contributed to environmental cleanliness and public health.
The organization has also invested in sports and youth development. In collaboration with Sk Bangs All Stars, SK’s Heart To Africa supported basketball development by donating Le 15,000 to the basketball federation, alongside sports equipment and footwear for young players.
Humanitarian outreach extended to Sabique Orphanage, where 80 vulnerable children benefited from donations including food, clothing, toiletries, educational materials, and recreational items. Additionally, the organization distributed newborn care packages to 150 new mothers, easing the financial burden of early childcare.
Looking ahead, SK’s Heart To Africa has announced plans to sponsor the full school fees of 50 students nationwide during the 2026 academic year, reinforcing its commitment to education as a pathway to long-term development.
With its growing footprint and community-centered approach, SK’s Heart To Africa continues to position itself as a catalyst for positive change, driven by youth leadership and local solutions to Sierra Leone’s development challenges.
