A New York judge sentenced former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein to 15 years in prison on Wednesday for sexually assaulting a former production assistant in 2006, following his conviction at a retrial last year.
Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Curtis Farber handed down the sentence in a Manhattan courtroom, six years after Weinstein’s original 2020 conviction that became a landmark for the #MeToo movement was overturned.
Weinstein, 74, was convicted in June 2025 of first-degree criminal sexual act for assaulting Miriam Haley, a former television production assistant, at his Manhattan apartment. He had faced up to 25 years.
Appearing in a wheelchair, Weinstein told the court he had never had non-consensual sex and maintained his innocence, while apologizing to “anyone I may have hurt by my actions.”
Haley, 49, addressed the court in a victim-impact statement, saying the assault had a “devastating effect on my life and sense of security that may never go away” and that coming forward meant “looking over my shoulder for years to come.” She said the experience had been “a life sentence” for her.
Weinstein was first convicted in February 2020 of assaulting Haley and raping aspiring actress Jessica Mann and was sentenced to 23 years. New York’s Court of Appeals overturned that conviction in April 2024, ruling he had not received a fair trial.
At the 2025 retrial, jurors found Weinstein guilty on the charge related to Haley, acquitted him of assaulting former model Kaja Sokola, and deadlocked on a charge involving Mann. A second trial on the Mann charge ended in a mistrial in May.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg praised Haley’s courage after the sentencing.
Weinstein, co-founder of Miramax and producer of films including “Shakespeare in Love” and “Pulp Fiction,” has been in custody since 2018 and has already served more than six years while his case cycled through trials and appeals. He is held in a prison medical ward and suffers from chronic myeloid leukemia, diabetes and heart disease, his lawyers have said.
He was separately convicted in Los Angeles in 2022 of rape and sexual assault and sentenced to 16 years in prison, convictions that were upheld by a California appeals court in June, which ordered a resentencing.
Weinstein is expected to appeal Wednesday’s sentence.
