Lawyers for SLPP flagbearer hopeful, Hon. Alhaji Musa Tarawally have issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Sierra Leone People’s Party, demanding that it retracts a public notice blacklisting their client or face full-scale legal action.
In a strongly worded letter dated 21st September 2026, Jengo, Sam & Partners wrote to National Publicity Secretary Moses Sellu Mambu over the Public Notice he issued on 19th September, which instructed SLPP executives, members, corporate bodies and the general public not to conduct any business with Tarawally in the name of the SLPP.
The lawyers described the notice as defamatory and ultra vires – beyond Mr. Mambu’s legal power – and said it was issued without any disciplinary hearing as required by the SLPP Constitution.
According to the letter, Hon. Tarawally remains a fully paid-up Grand Chief Patron with dues paid up to 2028 and an accredited National Delegate who voted at the party’s 2025 National Delegates Conference. He has never transacted business falsely in the name of the SLPP, the lawyers stated.
They further argued that the publication violates Articles 2, 5, 7(1), 10(1) and 13(1) of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the ECOWAS Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance.
The legal team gave Mr. Mambu seven days to provide written particulars of any alleged prohibited transactions, disclose which party organ authorised the notice, withdraw it in writing, and publish a correction and apology on the same platforms where it was circulated.
If he fails to comply, the lawyers warned, they will lodge a criminal complaint under Section 44 of the Cyber Security and Crime Act 2021, commence libel and injunctive relief proceedings in the High Court, and seek redress before the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice.
The ultimatum follows a similar letter earlier sent to National Chairman Jimmy Batilo Songa, who had on 17th September directed Tarawally to stop using the SLPP logo and presenting himself as a flagbearer aspirant over claims he is still a member of the Citizens Democratic Party (CDP).
Tarawally, who led the CDP into the 2018 elections, insists he resigned on 15th June 2018 before returning to the SLPP.
The SLPP Secretariat has not yet responded to the latest legal notice.
