Sierra Leone’s Supreme Court says it will hear all the cases linked to the 2025 Constitutional Amendment Bill on 7 October 2026.
This comes after President Julius Maada Bio refused to sign the bill into law. Instead, he sent it to the Supreme Court so the judges can look into the questions people have raised about how Parliament passed it.
The court has said it will deal with these matters quickly so everything can be settled properly under the law.
The bill itself has caused a lot of talk. It wants to change some big rules, like lowering the mark for a presidential win from 55% to just over 50%, making proportional representation the normal way we elect MPs, setting a 30% quota for women in party nominations, and allowing dual citizens to run for parliament and hold public office.
Opposition parties and some civil society groups have taken the matter to court, saying the way the bill was passed in Parliament in August did not follow the proper rules.
The Supreme Court will now decide.
