Four men are now in police custody after police and local people stopped them from breaking into the GOAL-Sierra Leone office on Bumbuna Road in Magburaka.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Alieu Jalloh, who heads the Criminal Investigations Department, confirmed the arrests on Wednesday, 9 September 2026, during a press briefing at the Kingtom Police Officers’ Mess.
He praised the quick action of the patrol officers and the important help from people in the community who spotted what was going on.
The break-in attempt happened on 23 August 2026. The four men, carrying dangerous tools, cut through the barbed-wire fence around the office. They were trying to force the doors open so they could steal valuable items belonging to the aid organisation.
A police patrol officer who was passing by and some sharp-eyed local youths noticed the suspicious activity just as the men were about to load the stolen goods into a waiting vehicle. Someone raised the alarm. A rapid-response team arrived quickly, secured the area and arrested the suspects on the spot.
The four men in custody are:
– Alimamy Kamara (the driver)
– Abdulai Barrie, 33 (who has previous convictions for stealing and obtaining money by false pretences)
– Abdul Rahman Fofanah, also known as “Uncle O” (another known offender)
– Hamuday Bangura
ACP Jalloh said the successful operation shows how important it is for the Police Partnership Board and ordinary people in the community to work together to protect important places, including those belonging to humanitarian organisations.
“This shows how much we need community people to help prevent crime,” he said.
He also assured the public that the Sierra Leone Police will keep working hard to stop crime before it happens.
The four suspects are still in custody while police continue their investigations.
