The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) in Magburaka have arrested Wara Kanu, a resident of Agriculture Road, Makali Town, for unlawful possession of ammunition.
The arrest followed an anonymous tip that led the police’s Operations Team to apprehend Kanu in possession of three small cartons containing fifty-two live rounds of single-barrel shotgun cartridges. Kanu was unable to present a license or legal documentation for the ammunition.
A thorough search of the suspect’s residence uncovered three additional cartons of live cartridges, totaling another fifty-two rounds, all of which were confirmed to be unlawfully possessed.
The SLP has taken both Kanu and the confiscated ammunition into custody as part of ongoing investigations. Authorities are working to determine the source of the ammunition and whether it is linked to any illicit activities in the region.
This arrest highlights the SLP’s commitment to combating illegal arms possession, which poses a significant threat to public safety and national security. The police are encouraging members of the public to continue providing tips and information that can aid law enforcement in preventing crime.
Meanwhile, Kanu is expected to face legal proceedings once investigations are concluded. If found guilty, the suspect could face severe penalties under Sierra Leone’s firearms and ammunition laws.
The SLP has reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on the unlawful possession of weapons and assured residents of Magburaka and its environs of their dedication to maintaining peace and security in the area.
