The Executive Director of Fambul Tok, John Caulker, has firmly stated that First Lady Fatima Bio does not meet the qualifications to run for the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) flagbearer position.
Caulker made this declaration during an interview on Liberty Online TV, while addressing rumors of the First Lady’s potential bid for the 2028 presidential elections.
He explained that after reviewing the SLPP constitution, the party has specific guidelines for selecting flagbearers, including certain eligibility criteria that aspirants must meet—though he did not specify these requirements.
Caulker further emphasized that the only way Fatima Bio could secure the flagbearer position is if President Julius Maada Bio endorses her candidacy.
Additionally, he revealed that, based on consultations with a legal expert, there are currently five qualified candidates eligible to contest for the SLPP flagbearer role—excluding Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh.
