
Sierra Leone’s President, Julius Maada Bio, warmly welcomed Liberia’s President, Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr., on his inaugural visit to Sierra Leone as Liberia’s head of state. The historic meeting at State House in Freetown highlighted the enduring ties between the two West African neighbors.
Expressing his delight, President Bio remarked, “I was elated to welcome my brother, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr., to State House, Freetown. This inaugural visit to Sierra Leone as President of the Republic of Liberia underscores our unwavering bonds as sister countries, characterized by deep and intertwined relations.”
The visit underscores the commitment of both leaders to fostering strong bilateral relations. Discussions are expected to cover key areas of cooperation, including regional security, trade, and sustainable development. The leaders aim to build on the legacy of collaboration that has defined Sierra Leone-Liberia relations over the years.
President Bio further emphasized the significance of the visit, pledging to strengthen ties and work on initiatives that promote the shared aspirations of their peoples. “We will continue to work closely on various fronts to advance the mutual interests of both nations,” he said, while extending warm hospitality to President Boakai, calling Sierra Leone his “second home.”
President Boakai’s visit also reflects a broader commitment to enhancing unity and cooperation within the Mano River Union (MRU) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
