In order to improve the nation’s security and peacekeeping capacities, the US sent the RSLAF essential equipment as part of the transfer, including 194 vehicles and more than 29,000 pieces of communication equipment.
The significance of this donation in supporting Sierra Leone’s democratic institutions and security was underlined by US Ambassador Hunt. This donation could help the RSLAF protect Sierra Leone’s democracy and constitution, help the Sierra Leone Police with internal security, and secure the country’s territorial integrity. This change guarantees that the Depot will remain a pillar of regional and national stability, since more than 200 RSLAF members have received training in logistics and operational management,” he stated.
The Depot is one of two authorised ECOWAS military installations intended to support combined military activities and storage.
As Sierra Leone gets ready to welcome a 1,200-person peacekeeping force approved by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the handover takes place. This force, which is a component of the ECOWAS Counter-Terrorism Force (CTForce), seeks to prevent illegitimate governments and stabilise the nation.
